FOLLOWING JESUS – FAMILY SUNDAY
Pastor Peter Andersen

August 29, 2021

Read: Matthew 28:18-29.

Question one: What has your own discipleship looked like? When did you come to faith? Who had the greatest impact in your growth as a follower of Christ?

(Get as specific as you want with this. For example I can remember a particular Sunday school teacher, a particular youth leader and what he challenged us with, and specific things my parents did. Feel free to tell some stories.)

Question two: What does it look like to be a disciple of Jesus in this modern world? What would Jesus do with modern finances? How would Jesus respond to world calamities? How would Jesus interact with modern politics?

(This could turn into a controversial conversation, but we need to have these conversations. Remember to show humility and love toward one another. I also encourage you to be thoroughly biblical. Reference specific gospel stories or teaching that show how Jesus would respond. Also try to be honest with each other, we often don’t respond to things the way Jesus would.)

Question three: Who are you discipling right now? How do you go about doing it? How is it going? Is there anything you need to change?

(If you are not actively discipling someone right now, how can you start helping someone grow in their faith? Maybe think of someone specific and pray for them together.)

Question four: Matthew 28 ends with the blessed promise that Jesus will be with us on our mission. What is the difference between doing discipleship in our own strength and doing discipleship with Jesus?

(What is your emotional response to having Jesus with you in ministry {don’t forget the Lord gave us emotions}? What is your practical/active response? How central is prayer to your life of following the Lord?)

Close in prayer.
