Do you listen to Christmas music during the holiday season?  If so, do you begin listening before or after Thanksgiving? What was your favorite Christmas song as a child? And what is your favorite Christmas song now as an adult?

ENGAGE
Read Mary’s song in Luke 1:46-55.  In which verses do you see these statements below portrayed?

1. Our souls were created to worship and praise the Lord.
2. Singing helps us to remember God’s promises
3. Singing strengthens our hears to respond to God’s grace
4. Singing reflects God’s glory.

Also read Hannah’s song in I Samuel 2:1-10 and discuss the statements above in light of her song.
Also read Moses’s song in Deuteronomy 32 and discuss the statement above in light of his song.

Much of Mary’s song is taken from various Old Testament Scripture that she knew by heart.  Cross reference some of these passages with her song to discover how she was rooted in His word: I Samuel 2:1-10 (Hannah’s song), Psalm 35:9, Psalm 138:6, Psalm 103:17, Psalm 107:9, Psalm 98:3.

APPLY
How can you apply these verses to your life?  Psalm 33:1-5, Colossians 3:16, Ephesians 5:18-19.

Read Zephaniah 3:17. God sings over us. How has God worked through songs in your life? Has He given you a special song during a time of hopelessness and despair to remind you of His promises and His love for you?

On YouTube look up the song “My Soul Magnifies the Lord’ and sing it together as a group.

PRAY
Pray that the Lord will open up your heart to songs of praise during this Christmas season and that you will be able to worship and glorify His name through worship as we celebrate the birth of Christ.
