Isaiah 40

Connect: Do you know someone who was an example of living their lives totally abandoned to God like Shirley?  If yes, what was their life like? What did you admire?

Did you have some one that prayed for you through the years and what was that like for you?

Engage: Read Isaiah 40
Zach talked about Shirley and the exchanged life
In times of distress or uncertainty, what brings you comfort? Do you find comfort in hearing truth about God? What scriptures bring you comfort?
What do you rely on for strength or energy? Do you depend on caffeine, sleep, “comfort food,” or something else? What would it look like for you to depend on Christ rather than worldly comforts?
Do you invite people into the mess of your life? why or why not?
Who are those people that you share your weaknesses’ with? What makes them safe?
In Isaiah 40, God shares many images about the character of God and his power, shepherd with lambs (Is 40:11), stars (Is 40:26), nations (Is 40:15–17), grass and flowers (Is 40:6–8), scales and measurements (Is 40:12), grasshoppers (Is 40:22), craftsmen (Is 40:19–20), eagles (Is 40:31), youth (Is 40:30).)
Which one of these visuals encourages you the most? Why ?

Apply: What would you trade with God? Zach mentioned Romans 6:4 Do you have assurance of this verse?
We bring Gods love into the lives of others through our words and actions
What is one thing you can do this week to apply this to your week? What would that look like for you? Share with your group.
Pray for each other to have love permeate our actions.
