Jeremiah 1:11-12 (see also Numbers 21:4-9)

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see an almond branch.” Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.”

Reading Jeremiah, I’m struck by the paradox of hardship vs. God’s steadfast promise to redeem his people. It’s a common theme throughout the old testament. God’s people forever walk away and find fault with Him in the midst of His provision. I am deeply reassured that God will always bring His word and promises to fruition. The almond blossom is a sacred symbol of Israel’s priests and prophets and God’s commitment. The staff and seraph are a symbol of healing and restoration from the time of Moses in the desert. Remember, when things look desperate, look to Christ and receive new life.
