What is your favorite thing about the 4th of July? How did you celebrate 4th of July this year?

ENGAGE
Have someone read Psalm 96 out loud three times.

  1. The first time, listen for and discuss the subject of God’s majesty.
  2. The second time, listen for and discuss how songs of praise glorify His name in our hearts.
  3. The third time, listen for and discuss how we can rejoice in God’s judgment.

Read I Chronicles 15:25-28 and 16:8-36, the actions and words of David as the Israelites celebrated bringing  the ark of the covenant of the Lord up to Jerusalem. What similarities do you see with Psalm 96?  What can you learn from David’s words and actions?

APPLY
Spend time singing a new song, or an old hymn together, praising God’s name, even if it is not in your comfort zone as a small group.  You can do this acapella, with live instruments, or by singing with a worship song on video.

PRAY
Pray that God will put a new song in our hearts and that we will praise His name with joy and glad tidings.
