How many characteristics of God can you name in a two-minute period? Tell about one or two them that you have experienced personally.
ENGAGE
Read Exodus 33:1-6, 33:15-23, and 34:5-8. What stands out in these passages about the heart of God? What stands out in these passages about the hearts of the Israelites? What stand out in these passages about the heart of Moses?
The verses in Exodus 34:6-7 are quoted over 20 times in the Bible. Look up a few of the cross-references and discuss what else you learn about God’s nature. Deuteronomy 4:29-31, Psalm 86:15-17, Psalm 103:8-12, Romans 2:4-8.
In Exodus 33:15 Moses responded strongly that he did not want to go in the Promise Land without God’s presence with the Israelites. Why do you think he responded in this way?
APPLY
Ask these questions of yourself:
- Do I want to receive all the benefits of God, but I keep Him at a distance relationally?
- In my prayer life, do I seek more of God’s hand and His provision, or do I seek to His face and am drawing closer to Him in relationship?
- Am I willing for life to get more challenging to know God better?
- Am I willing to watch and wait for His will in my life, or do I prefer solving it on my own?
- Is my worship life growing more deeper because I am getting to know God in a more profound way?
PRAY
Pray that you will grow closer in relationship with the Lord day by day as you walk with Him and get to know Him better.
