Connect:

When you hear the word priest – what does that word conjure up for you?

Engage:

Read Hebrews 4:14- 5:2, Luke 24:51-53

What was the role of the high priest according to Scripture?

In verse 14, we see Jesus described as our Great High Priest. The word great is used to emphasize His superiority over all the other priests. Using these Scriptures describe some ways Christ’s High Priestly ministry was far superior to all the others.

Lev. 16:6, Ezek. 22:26,2 Cor. 5:21, Heb. 4:14-15, Heb. 10:11-20, Matt. 27:50-51, Eph. 2:18

Read 4:14- 16 again what two commands are given in this passage?

According to these same verses, what reasons are given for us to hold fast to our confession and draw near to the throne of grace with confidence?

Where do you need to exercise your spiritual muscle when you read these words?

How do you experience Jesus as your high priest?

How do you experience Jesus as your advocate?

Have you ever felt that because Jesus was God, His humanity was somehow less relatable? Explain.

Zach made the statement” most of us would rather have things fixed than knowing God” – how does this play out in your life?

Zach also made the statement, “because of Christ we are all priests and priestesses – How do you see that playing out in your life? What does that look like for you?

Apply:

Share a time when you experienced God’s grace and mercy in a time of need.

With all the mercy and grace we have been given, extending that same mercy and grace to others would be more natural. Sadly, this not often the case. Why do you think it is so difficult at times to show grace to someone else, even though we sin ourselves? Can you Identify any patterns of thought or action that consistently keep you from showing God’s kindness to another?

Where have you become lazy in your walk with Jesus?

Where is one area that you can apply your spiritual muscle this week when it comes to Jesus?

How do you feel knowing that Jesus walks with you in every situation – “closer than a brother”  Proverbs 18:24 says, Do you experience that on a daily basis? – what steps could you take this week that help you experience His closeness ?
