Matt 6:13, James 1:2, John 8:44, Genesis 3:1-15, 2 Cor. 10:3-5, Eph. 2: 1-3, 1 Cor. 10:12-14

Connect: Has there been a time in your life when you were able to have victory over temptation?  What were the details of that event?  To you, what is the understanding of the good life?

Engage: Zach talked about temptation has to do with intent. James 1:2.

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,a whenever you face trials of many kinds,f 3 because you know that the testing of your faithg produces perseverance.h 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be maturei and complete, not lacking anything.

How have you seen this verse in your own life?  Take a few minutes to unpack this verse personally?

Dr Darrell W. Johnson paraphrase” Father as you lead us to the test. Do not let the test become the temptation, but rescue us from the one who seeks to destroy our faith and work in us the same in you that Jesus has” How do you see that quote work in your own life?

Read: John 8:44 What do you think Jesus is getting at here?

The main battle for our souls is for our mind.

Started in the beginning- Genesis 3:1-15

3 hooks of the human heart

  1. Did God really say? Makes us re think who God is
  2. The question then becomes is, Is He really good?
  3. Questioning self – Can we become like God?
  4. We are made in God’s image.
  5. We are made from dust.

What does it look to become like God? How does that play out today?

  1. What is the good life?

The enemy says you will have the good life if you have that thing / idea

How does this look in your life?

So What do we do?

  1. Pray with your mind, for your mind, about your mind.
  2. How does would this look in your life?

What do you think about this statement by Thomas A. Kempis

“The beginning of all evil temptation is a proud unstable mind and a small trust in God.”

How do you see this playing out today in our world?

2 Cor.10:3-5 talks about how we wage war.  Unpack this – what do you see in these verses and how do they play out today?

Jesus never had weapon but had the truth. What do you think Zach meant by that?

  1. Pray that you can see the battle.
  2. What do you think this statement means, today? Read Ephs. 2:1-3
  3. The thought enters the mind.
  4. The imagination is sparked by the mind.
  5. We feel the sense of pleasure at the fantasy, and we entertain it
  6. We engage in evil actions.
  7. We blame others for our actions.

Have you seen this progression in your life or the lives of others? How did that work out for you or that person?

#3. Receive your deliverance in prayer

  1. WE need a Savior – Ask the Holy Spirit to show you where you are falling short. Read 1 Cor. 10:12-14
  2. Where are you?

Apply:  In light of Zach’s message, what is one take away for you this week? What is one action step you need to take? Is it getting off tv? Is it setting aside 10 minutes to pray?

What would it look like if you took 10 minutes and asked Jesus what is happening in your soul and just listened to the Holy Spirit? Is that thought scary to you?
