VISION SUNDAY – WE ARE THE CHURCH – PART 2

CONNECT
What are some of your favorite memories of being a part of the family of God at ClearView, whether you have been here one day or 25 years?

ENGAGE
Read Romans 12:1-2, 9-21.  From these verses, answer these questions: What is authentic Christian community? What is authentic Christian community not?
Discuss these statements:

1. CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY IS FAMILY.
   1. “Be devoted” (v.10) in the Greek is “philostorgos” which means “fond of natural relatives i.e. fraternal towards fellow Christians:–kindly affectioned”.
   2. “Brotherly love”  (v.10) in Greek is “koinonia” which means “fraternal affection:–brotherly love (kindness), love of the brethren.”
2. CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY IS A SHARED LIFE
   1. Sharing my life with others; letting them get to know me.
   2. Sharing my resources with others; earthly goods and meeting the needs of others
   3. Sharing the truth of His Word with others; helping ourselves and others to become transformed into the image of Christ.
3. OUR STRENGTH FOR COMMUNITY COMES FROM CHRIST.
   1. Our strength is our humility (Philippians 2:1-4)
   2. Our strength is how we love one another, forgive one another, share with one another (John 13:35)

APPLY
Read Acts 2:1-8. God created the church out of His supernatural, divine power through His Holy Spirit. Many times in history, however, the church has become conformed to this world with ego, power, and our own kingdoms and agendas.  Where have each of us contributed to this worldly attitude within our own church body?

Read Romans 12: 11-12.  It is hard to remain steadfast, joyful, patient, prayerful, hospitable over time to within the body of Christ because we don’t get to choose who is in the family of God What or with whom are you struggling with at this present time?  Pray and ask: How can I be an overcomer through Christ’s love in this area?

PRAY
Pray that each one of us will not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. May we learn to love one another from a sincere heart and serve one another with preference and honor in the body of Christ.
