CONNECT
What is your favorite type of tree? Have you ever climbed a tree? Did you ever own a treehouse?
ENGAGE
Read Psalm 1:1-3. The Kingdom of God is like a tree: most of its activity is underneath the surface in the unseen root system. What parallels can you glean about trees and our spiritual walk with Christ?
Read I Peter 3:8-18. Looking at verse 8, look up in an English dictionary the meaning of each word listed as a characteristic of the Christian heart and how it should look outwardly in our lives.
Read Colossians 2:6-7. There are 3 qualities of the Christian life help us to be rooted In Christ: Discuss each of these:
- HOPE (I Peter 3:15) “joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation”
- PRAYER (I Peter 3:12) “a seeking, asking entreaty to God”
- FRIENDSHIP WITH OTHER BELIEVERS (I Peter 3:8) “of one mind”
APPLY
Read I Peter 3:13-15 and Ephesians 2:10. Our good works flow out of our inward heart both in word and deed. How prepared are you in your inner spiritual walk with Christ to give an answer outwardly to those who see that your life is different than the world’s response? What are some small acts of faith that make a difference daily to those around us that do not know Christ?
PRAY
Pray that our inward man would be strengthened by Christ day by day so that the outward man would be a testimony to those around us both in word and in deed.
