PHILIPPIANS 4:4-9: PASTOR TOM DAGES: DEC 30 2018

1-While the music was very touching during worship, someone made the comment to Pastor Tom, about some people not singing during worship! What would be some of the reasons why people would come to worship and not sing?

2-If we struggle with not singing during worship would be some steps we could take to engage more deeply in corporate worship on Sunday mornings?

3-Pastor Tom confessed to struggling with anxiety since childhood. Is anxiety as sin or a weakness or could it be both? Explain your answer.

4-Read Phil 4:4-9. Which recovery principle Pastor Tom shared out of Phil 4:4-9 was the most helpful for you in battling with anxiety?

a-Choosing to pray with thanksgiving instead of worry (Phil 4:6-7)

b-Dwelling on truth in our minds instead of anxiety provoking lies (Phil 4:8)

c-Practicing a life of godliness which opens the door to peace (Phil 4:9)

d-learning to rejoice and living out of the nearness of Christ within us (Phil 4:4-5)

5-Describe the two kinds of peace God can give and how he gives them a) Supernatural peace and b) a natural peace.

6-Describe a time when in extreme hardship you prayed and God gave you a “peace that was beyond understanding?”

7-Do you agree with Jerry Bridges that, “Trust is not a passive state of mind It is a vigorous act of the soul by which we choose to lay hold on the promises of God and cling to them despite the adversity which at times seeks to overwhelm us.”

8-What does Bridges mean by trust not being a “passive state of mind”?
