THE LORD’S PRAYER

Connect: What is your experience with prayer? Do you struggle with prayer, why or why not? Have you been the recipient of faithful prayers?

Engage: Jesus’s life showed us the Rhythm of prayer. It caught the attention of the Disciples. They asked Him to teach them how to pray.

We have an invitation/a call to know God through prayer. Why is prayer difficult? What are the things that vie for your attention over prayer?

What is your thought that boredom is being eradicated from our lives and that our hearts are being pulled away from reality. Have you seen this in your own lives or the lives of others? Brings up other questions of do I really believe God hears our prayers?

Eph.3:18-19 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
What do you think about what this passage is saying to you?
What do you think of Zach’s statement, “our attention is valuable to God? “ that our attention is of immense value to God?

“Our Father” can bring up some hard things. You may have had a difficult relationship with your own father. It is worth working through with the difficulty. Do you have someone you can talk about your relationship?

What do you think about Zach’s statement of the prodigal son accepting the father’s love. Have you experienced the love of the Father and what was that like for you?

1. Relationship with God–

Tim Keller says, “A triune God would call us to converse with Him because He wants to share the joy He has. Prayer is our way of entering into the happiness of God himself. “
What do you think of that statement? Have you experienced joy when you pray to God?

What does it feel like to be adopted by God, to be His son or daughter and that He wants to spend time with you?

In Heaven, Hebrew idea – 3 realms. He holds it all. He is as close as a breath. Are you able to experience that God?
Prayer is an invitation to know Him.
Michael Heiser says,

“The key to seeing ourselves in this picture is to firmly grasp that

God is still working his plan even when we can’t see it. We cannot genuinely claim to

believe in the unseen, supernatural world while not believing that God’s intelligent

providence is active in our lives and the affairs of human history. God wants us to live

intentionally—believing that his unseen hand and the invisible agents loyal to him and

us (Heb. 1:14) are engaged in our circumstances so that, together, God’s goal of a global

Eden moves unstoppably onward.

What are the thoughts on this statement?

Apply: What is the Lord asking you to do considering this of this message? How are you going to discipline yourself this week to take some time to be with the Father in prayer?

Why don’t you as a group say the Lord’s prayer together.
