Connect: Have you ever gone on a mission’s trip and what was that like for you? What is your feeling on missions?
Engage: Our church keeps things simple – sending/ going / supporting 3 Main ingredients
- The basis of truth –
a. Incarnation (Jesus was God in human flesh) – Jesus was a missionary to us.
b. Jesus was the Messiah (fulfilled the OT prophesies)
c. Jesus atones for our sins – not through man or religion.
d. Bodily Resurrection
e. Called us to family and mission
How do you think these works with Missions? What examples did Zach use and can you think of some whys that looks today not only in America but also in other countries? Where do we need to press into some these truths with others?
2. Faithful to brothers and sisters vs. 5-8
a. Being faithful to missionaries. Where are you being faithful to missionaries? How do you pray for them, or do you pray for them?
b. Have you had an experience of meeting a Christian in an out of the way place? What was that like for you?
3. Sending vs.6
You will do well to send them – sending ( food, money for fares, safety letters of intro, prayers
What do you think of the statement – In a way as if we were sending Jesus himself? Does that change the way you look at missions?
a. Going vs. 7
1. Going for the glory of God but not for us.
Have you ever experienced missionaries who were all about them or being the white savior for them and what was that like for you?
Genesis 3:1- 3 – So that you will be a blessing? Not only oversees but in your neighborhood? How can you be a blessing to those that do not know Christ ?
Isaiah 6:8
b. Supporting vs. 8
The grace of giving is a spiritual gift ( Rom. 12:8). Many of God’s gifts are both generously bestowed in some measure on all believers and given in special to some. John Stott
Where are you supporting missionaries financially or prayerfully. 2 Cor. 5:14
Apply: What is God asking you considering this message? Maybe it is taking a step to support missionary, maybe it is writing and encouraging missionaries. Maybe it is working with a local mission here in BV? Maybe God is calling you to grow?
Where is God asking you to take a step of faith regarding missions?
