Jonah 3, Phil 2: 12-13, Matt 16, John 12:24

Engage: Zach shared that” God is just as committed to our obedience as He is to His mission to reach the world, but it was terribly inefficient to deal with Jonah.” Have you ever struggled with being obedient but bringing others into the mess with you? What was that like for you?

What does the sacrificial life look like to you?

Dorothy Sayers: “The sin of our times is the sin that believes in nothing interferes with nothing, enjoys nothing, hates nothing, and remains alive because there is nothing for which it will die.”
What do you think of this quote? What strikes you?

Zach also shared, “I love you enough to hold you to obedience.” How does that statement sit with you?

Zach was going to title this message 3 Easy steps to living a life of sacrifice.

Step 1: Die to your self-sufficiency. Where are you self-sufficient?
Phil 2:12-13-Therefore my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
What do you think of this verse – what is the Lord inviting you too in this verse?

Step 2: Die to your agenda. Where do you need to die to your agenda? Jonah finally did obey God. Where do you need to obey God and not your agenda.

Matthew 16: 1- 25 Read through that chapter: What are you noticing? What words pop out to you. What do you notice about Peter? Where do you relate to Peter?

Step 3: Die to your grumbling. What do you grumble about?

Read: John 12:24 Zach There was only 1 obstacle that prevented Israel from fulfilling God’s mission and that was grumbling. Where do you need to die to grumbling?

Apply: What is God inviting you concerning this message? Where has God called you to die?

Which one of the 3 steps is the hardest for you apply to your life?
