Engage: Re Read Jonah 1 again – concentrating on verse 3 “ away from the presence of the Lord “ Where have you wandered away from the presence of the Lord?

The prophet Isaiah clearly adapts the metaphor saying” We have so much wickedness that uprightness can’t even enter our city. Things were so morally distorted in Jerusalem that was the new straight.”

What do you think of this statement?

C.S. Lewis “We are not merely imperfect creatures who must be improved – we are rebels who must lay down our arms.” What does this say to you considering the Gospel?
Zach talked about how we turn from God’s presence, and we do not practice the 1st commandment.

You shall have no other gods before me.
Matt. 22:36 “You shall love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.”

Where do you see the comparison with Paul and Jonah? Is there a comparison today?

How do you unpack the both/and with God’s love and judgement? How do we see this through God’s eyes? They are not opposites. However, love and apathy are opposites. Where do we see this now in life?
