Connect: Where have you been in a dark place where you had to surrender? How was that for you? Where was God in that dark place that you experienced?

Engage: Reread Jonah 2 What do you notice in this passage? Are there any words or phrases that stand out to you? What do you think that is saying to you?

Zach made some statements that we will look at.

Jonah 2:1-2 In our darkest times God is the closest and most involved and attentive. What do you think of that statement? How have you experienced that in your life or seen it in lives of others?

Jonah 2:4 I thought God gave me fully to what I wanted, and it was horrible – Have you ever been given something you thought you wanted, and it ended up badly?

Jonah 2:6-7 The only thing that Jonah has going for him is the fact that God is committed to him.
Jonah was going from asleep to awake. Have you ever experienced that in your life? Kind of an aha moment with God?

The God of Israel turns a vehicle of death into surprising vehicle of death into a vehicle of grace. Jeremiah 51:34

Jonah 2:9-10 Our circumstances and emotions are not a true indicator of God’s feelings or commitment to us. Where do you or have you seen this in your life?

The other interesting thing with Jonah is 3 days in the belly of the whale and Jesus died, was crucified, was risen from the dead. Are there other 3-day times through Scripture that you have noticed?

Apply: What is one takeaway from this message that the Lord is inviting to you to apply to your life right now? Who are you going to share your invitation with?
