Do you have any great adventure stories of being out in the wild?

ENGAGE
Read Matthew 11:27-30. What new thoughts or insights did you glean from the sermon today about the heart of Jesus?

In verse 28, Jesus says “Come to me”.  Discuss this quote by Dallas Willard: “Jesus is the human face on the kingdom of God. He makes it concretely accessible.”  Read Romans 5:8 and discuss how Jesus moves towards us in love, not away from us, when we were yet sinners.

In verse 28, it states that the weary and heavy-laden will find rest. Read Matthew 23:1-28. Discuss how the Pharisees had added layers of religious regulations to the law to make it burdensome to approach God. What was Jesus offering instead?

In verse 29, the English translation for “gentle” is: “having or showing a mild, kind, or tender temperament or character” and “lowly” is: “humble in manner or spirit: free from self-assertive pride.” Discuss examples of this in the life of Jesus.

APPLY
How do you think of Jesus when you sin? Do you hide from Him, such as Adam & Eve did with God in the Garden, (see Genesis 3:8) or do you run to Him?  Do you expect judgment, or do you expect forgiveness?

Read I Peter 5:6-7. What is your yoke that you are carrying right now? (For each person it is different.) What self-imposed requirements do you place on yourself which keep you distant from Christ at these times of life? Are you willing to lay them all aside and simply come and bring your burden(s) to Him?

PRAY
Pray that we would become more like Christ in our daily walk, being gentle and lowly in spirit, and that we would find rest for our souls when we draw closer to Him.
