Matthew 23:37- 24:1-27,24, John 3, Heb 10: 23-25, Exodus 19:16, 21-24

Connect:  What has been your faith tradition regarding the 2nd coming? What shaped that view?

Engage:  “Jesus Christ will come again to the earth- personally visibly and bodily, to judge the living and the dead and to consummate history and the eternal plan of God, Even so come Lord Jesus.” What do you think of this statement from Clearview 101?

Apocalyptic literature – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocalyptic_literature

Zach said apocalyptic literature is to shake us up. – vs 23:37 – your problem is not the Romans, it’s your hearts. Where does your heart need to be woken up?
Who is Jesus talking to in 24:3-51, Why is it important to note His audience?

What does Jesus mean in 24:34? How can we reconcile His words here with his words in 24:36?

There are birth pangs- our world is not where it should be – Where do you see this in the world and in your life?

Zach talked about little ds considering the Big D. – How do you live your little ds? There are 4 things that the Lord reminds us considering the Day of the Lord.

  1. Spiritual Alertness
Where are you being spiritual alert with your walk with Jesus?

  2. Re-ordering Priorities
What is important? Where do you need to shift your priorities?

  3. The Power to Forgive
Where do you need to forgive and totally let go of judgement?

Tim Keller quote,” Apart from the doctrine of the second coming we have no power to keep ourselves from running to that judgement seat. Only knowing Jesus is coming back & His return means true justice can I be content to stay off it.”

We need to put ourselves under the judgement of God.

4. Hope of Suffering – We do not know what to do in suffering. Where do you need to press into suffering? Where do we need to help people in suffering?

Apply:  What is one take away from this message? Out of these 4 thoughts – which one will you apply to your life this week?

Where do you see God doing something good in the midst of trials?
