Connect: Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving tradition or memory? What is one thing, you are thankful for this Thanksgiving season? What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

Engage: Was there anything that stood out to you reading chapter 4? Has there been a time in your life where you have seen God fight for you? What do honest prayers to the Lord look like when you are frustrated?

Zach listed 3 statements

  1. Don’t be afraid.

God often said that statement throughout the bible – Can you think of specific places in Scripture where God said to his people don’t be afraid?

Fear often tells us something is wrong. The enemy uses it to keep us down. Where have you struggled with fear in your life?
I loved the example of the arrow and the bow. Where do you put your anger? How have you dealt with fear and anger? What do you do with those feelings?

  2. Remember what God Has done and spoke.

Lamentations 5:15-17 says,” The joy of our hearts has ceased; our dancing has been turned to mourning. Our crown has fallen from our head; woe to us for we have sinned! For this our heart has become sick, for these things our eyes have grown dim. “This verse is desolation. Have you ever felt this and what did you do to remember what God has done? Do you use visual or written reminders and if you do, what are they? Are there verses that comfort you to remember?

  3. Stand and Fight.

Zach talked about the both/ and- What are some examples of both/ and in the life of a Christian? What does that look like for you in your life?
Zach quoted the statement, “Pray as if all depends on God and works as if it depends on you. What do you think of that statement? Have you ever had a time where you had to practice this statement and what did that look like for you? What does that look like for the Christian community these days with these 3 statements?

Apply: What is one take away for you this week from this sermon? Out of these 3 statements which one are you needing to apply to your life right now? Where are you still living under the curse and needing it to be broken in your life? Out of these 3 statements which one right now gives you the most comfort? What is one thing you can do to stand and fight even if it is sweeping the floor?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
